Otterböte bronze age settlement

At the foot of Otterböte mountain you can find a unique seal hunter settlement from the younger bronze age. There are remains of nine round huts, multiple waste heaps and a small well.

You can reach Otterböte via a 600 meter long path from Hamnövägen.

The settlement was used by hunters from the south, they came up north in the spring time to hunt seal. We know this thanks to extensive finds of clay shards found on multiple digs of the area. The clay comes from the southern coastline of the Baltic sea, northern Poland and Bornholm. The clay vessels also have imprints of different plants, which tells us that they have been made in an agricultural setting.

Did you know that Otterböte is one of the Nordic countrys most known settlement from the bronze age?
